Your First Visit

Orthodontic treatment is a step-wise process and the first step is a complimentary* evaluation.  Please allow approximately one hour for your first visit.

During this visit we may request to take photographs of your face & teeth and a digital panoramic x-ray (a single x-ray that shows all of your teeth), at no charge, to help Dr. Freeman assess your specific treatment needs.  You will be provided a copy of your photographs and x-ray.  An additional copy of your x-ray will also be forwarded to your dentist along with a summary of Dr. Freeman's findings and treatment recommendations.

At the completion of your appointment you will know the answers to the following:

  • Is there a need for orthodontic treatment?
  • Is now the best time to begin treatment?
  • What treatment options are available?
  • What will treatment cost?
  • How long will treatment last?

What's Next

The First Step: Complimentary Evaluation

Upon scheduling your complimentary initial examination you will receive a welcome letter, a map to the practice, and a Patient Registration Card * to bring with you to your first appointment.

The Second Step: Orthodontic Records

The second step is completing your orthodontic records.  This typically includes impressions (molds) of the teeth and a profile x-ray which shows the relationship between the position of your jaws and the teeth.  We are able to complete your complimentary evaluation and records at the same appointment if you desire.

The Third Step: Consultation

A pre-treatment consultation is performed prior to the placement/delivery of your orthodontic appliances (braces, Invisalign aligners, etc.). The consultation is often scheduled the same day that your appliances are placed. During the consultation we will review your orthodontic records, informed consent and individualized treatment plan.

The Fourth Step: “Getting Braces”

During this appointment we will place the braces, wires and colored or clear ties.  We will also demonstrate how to care for your teeth and braces.  This appointment is approximately 90 minutes.  Alternatively if your treatment includes Invisalign aligner treatment we will place attachments, recontour teeth and dispense your initial series of clear aligners.

The rest of treatment will consist of adjustment appointments typically scheduled every six to eight weeks.  During the appointment we will: evaluate oral hygiene, assess progress of treatment, adjust your braces and place selected colored ties.

The Fifth Step:

Upon the completion of treatment you will be provided with retainers to maintain your beautiful smile.  Retainer options include removable retainers as well as bonded (permanent) retainers.  Of course we will continue to see you periodically for your retainer checks.

These steps vary slightly depending upon the exact treatment indicated. However, the first step will always be a complimentary evaluation. We look forward to helping create your beautiful new smile! To get started, please contact us!
